About Us
Wilmington Regional Safety & Health School (WSS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to sharing practical safety and health knowledge that helps protect workers, organizations, and communities across North Carolina.
Our Story
Founded in 1950, WSS began by addressing safety challenges in Wilmington’s fertilizer industry. As regional needs grew, companies from across sectors joined, and the School broadened its focus to all industries. In 1982, WSS incorporated as The Wilmington Regional Safety and Health School of North Carolina, Inc., formalizing its bylaws and nonprofit status. Our annual late-July event continues a long tradition of learning by the coast—bringing people together to improve safety where it matters most: on the job.
